Screen Casting – Windows & Android

Screen casting, also known as screen mirroring, allows you to display your device’s screen on a smart TV. Here’s how you can achieve this from a Windows laptop or an Android phone, and what to do if your TV does not natively support screen casting.

Screen Casting to a Smart TV that Supports It

From a Windows Laptop

  1. Ensure Both Devices Are on the Same Network:
  • Connect your Windows laptop and smart TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
  1. Use the Built-In Windows Feature:
  • Press Win + K to open the Connect pane.
  • Select your smart TV from the list of available devices.
  • Your laptop screen should now be mirrored to the TV.
  1. Use Miracast:
  • Go to Settings > Devices > Bluetooth & other devices.
  • Click on Add Bluetooth or other device and select Wireless display or dock.
  • Choose your TV from the list.

From an Android Phone

  1. Ensure Both Devices Are on the Same Network:
  • Connect your Android phone and smart TV to the same Wi-Fi network.
  1. Use the Built-In Casting Feature:
  • Swipe down to open the Quick Settings panel.
  • Tap on the Cast icon (may vary by device, sometimes called Screen Mirroring or Smart View).
  • Select your TV from the list of available devices.
  1. Use Google Home App:
  • Download and open the Google Home app.
  • Select your TV and tap Cast my screen.

If the TV Does Not Natively Support Screen Casting

Use a Casting Device

  1. Google Chromecast:
  • Plug the Chromecast device into your TV’s HDMI port.
  • Set up the Chromecast using the Google Home app.
  • Use the same methods as above to cast from your Windows laptop or Android phone.
  1. Amazon Fire Stick:
  • Plug the Fire Stick into your TV’s HDMI port.
  • Use the Fire Stick’s settings to enable mirroring.
  • Use the same methods as above to cast from your Windows laptop or Android phone.
  1. Roku:
  • Plug the Roku device into your TV’s HDMI port.
  • Set up the Roku and enable screen mirroring in the Roku settings.
  • Use the same methods as above to cast from your Windows laptop or Android phone.

Use an HDMI Cable

  1. Direct Connection from Windows Laptop:
  • Connect your laptop to the TV using an HDMI cable.
  • Select the appropriate HDMI input on your TV.
  • The laptop screen should be mirrored to the TV.
  1. USB-C to HDMI Adapter for Android Phones:
  • If your phone supports HDMI output via USB-C, use a USB-C to HDMI adapter.
  • Connect the adapter to your phone and the HDMI cable to the TV.
  • Select the appropriate HDMI input on your TV.

Summary

  • For Smart TVs with Casting Support: Ensure both devices are on the same network and use built-in casting features.
  • For TVs without Native Casting Support: Use devices like Google Chromecast, Amazon Fire Stick, Roku, or direct HDMI connections.

These methods will help you effectively screen cast from a Windows laptop or Android phone to a TV.
